Ah, shoes… Alas, I cannot walk very far in heels due to arthritis, but it doesn’t stop me from buying them. :-) The soles never meet pavement. I like the plain pumps the best, especially since there are no buckles to snag the nylons. I much prefer the stilettos to the extreme platforms, although the eBay link reminds me of another peeve — they put the same heel height on the size 10s as the 6s. So the 6s have a nice lift to the foot, and the 10s look kind of clunky. Shouldn’t the heel be proportionate to the foot length rather than 4″ (or whatever) for everyone? I’ll have to chat with my shoemaker friends about that…

Plain pumps can be very nice, and you’re right, there isn’t much to snag your stockings either. Stilettos are my favorite too, on boots and on heels. I don’t like the big clunky heels either, but I do own a few pairs of shoes that have a larger heel.
As for your peeve, I’ve never thought about that! But I suppose a woman with a larger foot might also want that look afforded by a four inch heel, but then again, we all have to adapt to our own body types. Some things look better on some women. It’s more that, when shoe shopping the samples they put out are usually size 6. For someone who wears a 6 or 7, what they bring out from the back looks the same as what’s on display. When they bring out the 10, the angle of the foot is shallower. A 2″ heel on a size 6 foot looks like a heel, whereas on a size 10 it looks kinda flat. I would need maybe a 3″ heel for the same look. (Where’s my Pythagorean theorum….) We get used to the shoes looking different than the display or the catalog, but still…
And since taller women tend to have the larger feet, people think we don’t “need” a higher heel.
Likewise I know what you mean about clothing. We see it displayed on tall, thin women. Once it’s on a differnt body, it looks different.
The perils of shopping! And hopefully people will appreciate the effort it takes to put together a good “look,” how the shoes work with the body & clothes. It’s not always as easy as just putting on a pair of hot shoes! :-D

Yea I took riding lessons from a tall Arabian - horse that is. Friends had a horse ranch and my lesson began like this, “If you can catch him, you can ride him.” (Hmm, that sounds kinda like one of your shoe tales). Rode western for years. Then I learned to ride english with Cynthia’s Thoroughbred, magnificent horse, and a jumper. We only jumped once, but was amazing. Riding thru the ranches in Santa Barbara was great. Best way to have a horse? Someone else owns ‘em.

Getting Horse #1, Red, it was a trade, I cleaned the stalls & sometimes had feeding duty. Sunset rides in the desert were great.
One early evening, I saddled up one of their race horses after too much wine & ended up - looking up. Righted the saddle, cinched ‘em up and jumped on for a rocket ride that I thought was never going to end. yahoo.

Hmmm, you’re right, I never really thought about that. They do usually put out a more common size on the display racks, but when you try and go up or down, it doesn’t look the same.
That’s such a misconception that a taller woman wouldn’t want that same look of a higher heel! Why not? High heels aren’t just about height! They’re about empowerment and self beauty and getting that right look! Some dresses just don’t look right when you wear a flat or a low heeled shoe.
Well, I’ve never liked the way the stores display things. Like any of us look like the manequins in the windows! I usually find myself trying to find something that works with my petite frame. I mean, there are a lot of clothes for my size, but not always the look I want.
Tho, I love to shop! So I shouldn’t complain. The hard thing for me is pants, and sometimes skirts. Tops and blouses are usually pretty easy, but I’ve had to send slacks to the tailor to have them hemmed because they were just a bit too long, but I like capris, so I can usually work around that!
See? They think its so easy! I try explaining these things to my husband who looks at me with that blank stare as he picks up a pair of jeans, throws them on, and looks fine. ARGH!!
