Well, this kind of interests me. I would love to see a ‘real independent’ candidate run and actually win the whole thing. It would break the lock that party politics has on our government. I know he’s currently a republican, but then again so is Rudy, and Rudy is more like a moderate/conservative Democrat than a pug.

One night, George W. Bush is tossing restlessly in his White House bed. He awakens to see George Washington standing by him. Bush asks him, “George, what’s the best thing I can do to help the country?”

“Set an honest and honorable example, just as I did,” Washington advises, and then fades away.

The next night, Bush is astir again, and sees the ghost of Thomas Jefferson moving through the darkened bedroom. Bush calls out, “Tom, please! What is the best thing I can do to help the country?”

“Respect the Constitution, as I did,” Jefferson advises, and dims from sight…………….

The third night sleep still does not come for Bush. He awakens to see the ghost of FDR hovering over his bed. Bush whispers, ” Franklin , What is the best thing I can do to help the country?”

“Help the less fortunate, just as I did,” FDR replies and fades into the mist……………………

Bush isn’t sleeping well the fourth night when he sees another figure moving in the shadows. It is the ghost of Abraham Lincoln. Bush pleads, “Abe, what is the best thing I can do right now to help the country?”

Lincoln replies, “Go and see a play.”

You will surely understand that I have certain needs that you, being 54 years old, can no longer satisfy. I am very happy with you and I value you as a good wife. Therefore after reading this letter, I hope that you will not wrongly interpret the fact that I will be spending the evening with my 18 year old secretary at the Comfort Inn Hotel. Please don’t be upset - I shall be back home before midnight.”

When the man came home late that night, he found the following letter on the dining room table:

“My Dear Husband,
I received your letter and thank you for your honesty about my being 54 years old. I would like to take this opportunity to remind you that you are also 54 years old. As you know , I am a math teacher at our local college. I would like to inform you that while you read this, I will be at the Hotel Fiesta with Michael, one of my students, who is also the assistant tennis coach. He is young, virile, and like your secretary, is 18 years old.

As a successful businessman who has an excellent knowledge of Math, you will understand that we are in the same situation, although with one small difference:
18 goes into 54 a lot more times than 54 goes into 18. Therefore, I will not
be back home until sometime tomorrow.”

Oh I know, it’s awful really isn’t it? We could solve all of this country’s social problems with just a fraction of what we’re spending at The Pentagon. And you know I’ve written about my Father and how he was a career USN Officer, so I “get” the need for a strong military being a Navy Brat myself, but the things we spend money on, as well as the enormous portion of revenue that gets spent on the military is crazy!

You’re absolutely right, they do act like it’s post WWII and we’re still fighting the cold war.

The military isn’t equipped to fight 21st century wars (because it’s guerrilla warfare like Iraq and Afghanistan in third world countries, and in first world countries it’s financial by trade or assets movement), yet they’re spending like crazy on tanks, jets, and a whole bunch of other crap they don’t need just to keep defense contractors in business. They still think it’s the WWII and the Cold War.

All the while that 40 cents could have gone to schools and other things.
