Paris HiltonA little diversionary celebrity news today to help take my mind off my own troubles; Paris Hilton has been released from jail! But what’s so surprising, to me anyway, is the seemingly false indignation on the part of all the talking heads on 24 hour cable news about this with all of their “Why oh why was she let out of jail?” The answer? Because she’s Paris Hilton. Duh! TMZ has been all over the Paris Patrol today, and okay, I admit it, it’s a guilty pleasure of mine, but I love me some good celebrity gossip, and TMZ never lets me down. They first broke the news that Paris had been sprung from the pokey in the early hours of pre-dawn Los Angeles, and from there the media were off and running to catch up with the story.

Not to go off on a big diatribe, but other than the celebrity factor, why does anyone care? I like Paris. I think she’s got that girly-girl thing going on in a big way, and I think that’s kind of cool. I love her clothes and her taste in shoes and I like that she represents that beautiful iconic blonde every generation seems to have. But the huge reaction from the general public in such a negative way seems a little misplaced to me. I’m wondering why people aren’t more upset about criminals like George Bush and Dick Cheney? What does it say about us as a society that we care more about what happens to Paris or Rosie than we do about our own living conditions and things we actually have control over, like voting? Does this mean that we’re all the ultimate voyeurs who live our lives vicariously thru celebrities? Do we crave that celebrity so much when American Idol gets more votes than the last presidential election?

Paris released this statement today after being sprung:

“I want to thank the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and staff of the Century Regional Detention Center for treating me fairly and professionally. I am going to serve the remaining 40 days of my sentence. I have learned a great deal from this ordeal and hope that others have learned from my mistakes.”- Paris Hilton

The general public’s appetite for destruction never ceases to amaze me. We love to see the rich and famous falter and fail, yet we can’t seem to ever take our eyes off them either. But also according to TMZ, Paris will have no restrictions placed on her terms of home confinement, so that means party!

Baseball News

My beloved Boston Red Sox dropped another game in Oakland last night, losing 3-2 to the Athletics. Knuckleballer Tim Wakefield looked a little shaky in last nights start, and tonight Curt Schilling takes the hill for the Sox in the last of four games against the A’s. I happen to be one of those Red Sox fans who thinks Curt is way overrated as a starting pitcher. If you apply the rules of sabermetrics, we’re paying too much for him. Not that he doesn’t have talent, but he’s getting old and his injuries are just going to get worse. I’m afraid Curt is going to hang around Boston’s neck like Roger Clemens is for the Yankees. We’re clinging to memories of the bloody sock in 2004, but that was three years ago and it’s time to let Curt go. Plus he’s a right wing asshole who won’t shut the fuck up either.

After Oakland we’ve got a long stretch of interleague play starting with three games in Arizona then back to Fenway for a series with Colorado, and then the San Francisco Giants. Play Ball! Yay!

Other Celebrity News

This kind of amused me. An online petition to fire that annoying Elisabeth Hasselbeck from The View. I admit it, I signed it and then forwarded it to a few friends. I’m such a celebrity junkie, but after what happened to Rosie on The View and after it came out that Elisabeth had been being coached by Executive Producer Bill Geddes on all of her right wing talking points so she could hold her own against Rosie it kind of pissed me off. The show is completely unwatchable now, and since I used to enjoy The View, I want her gone!

nina news

I’m feeling better today, but it’s still hard. I started working again this morning but only managed to get a half day in. I’m having a hard time focusing, but I’m convinced that I have to keep going and keep finding reasons to get up and get dressed every morning. I cannot wallow in self pity over my loss, and I’m trying very hard not to let that happen.

I’ve also got a few new toys to play with too. My Lelo Nea vibrator, a new 80gb white iPod and an 8 foot long leather whip. Yeah, I’m kinky like that. Maybe once I’m feeling better about life in general I’ll be in the mood to play with them and write about it. But for today, you have Paris Hilton, the Boston Red Sox, and me… the lazy geisha.

That and the new iPhone later this month.

Paris is a little smarter than people think. She’s already made $10M on her own from tv and other celebrity-related events. Not bad.

    JW,

I know! The iPhone comes out on the 29th of this month. I’m pissed because I have a contract with T-Mobile and the iPhone is only for Cingular/AT&T customers. And there’s apparently no way to hack around that either with the new email and internet features packed into the iPhone. The other news is supposedly Apple is coming out with a widescreen iPod with the same touch technology as the iPhone by the end of the year, so that should be kind of cool.

Paris is smart! She’s no dummy! She got herself out of jail and she’ll bounce back from this. She’ll do just fine, and we’ll all watch!

    Thanks sweetheart,

    xoxo,

From the list I saw, Paris was smarter and earned more than the heir to the Hunt fortune (billionaire).

Btw, a couple of new channel recommendations worth watching are The Documentary Channel and Current TV.

  4. 4nina aoki

    JW,

Oh yes, well in terms of being an heiress she’s done very well for herself. I mean, she’s famous for being famous! It doesn’t get better than that! And I happen to think she’s very attractive too.

Oh cool! Thanks for those recommendations. I haven’t been watching a lot of TV lately much past baseball games. I kind of needed that disconnect from the world and baseball is the perfect way to just forget your troubles and immerse yourself in something else.

Believe it or not, baseball is a big help for me right now.

    Thanks hon.

Well if you want the I-Phone you should move to Europe since its very likly that the contract goes to T-Mobile here.

But if that is too much of a hassle… you could try to get one of those beauties :

    Redwraithvienna,

Konichiwa! Well, as much as I love traveling in Europe I have no plans to move there right now. I know the technology which powers the iPhone is a bit restrictive (I don’t recall the specs off the top of my head right now tho), but I’m sure internationally it will have to work with other carriers. Right now in the US, AT&T/Cingular has a 5 year deal with Apple to be the exclusive provider for the iPhone.

But thanks for the link to that other smartphone. There are a lot of good products out there right now.

Tho, the whole world is coming to an end now… it seems as tho the LA City Attorney wants Paris back in the joint! Good lord… only in the USA.

    Hey Nina,
Good to see you trying to get back in the swing of things. PH, well, really no comment, it didn’t bother me if she stayed in jail or not. I didn’t actually think she would even make to jail, why put her in jail for probation issues when the V.P. of the country can shoot a guy hunting and the big P. can send thousands of people to there ultimate demise with recourse. so really no emotions whatsoever about P.H.
“GO CURT!” 1 lowsly fastball from a no-no…what a great game. I happened to be off yesterday afternoon and watched the game, no nails left on my fingers, may have even chewed off a knuckle or two ;-) Now lets get Arizona…
I am getting my son the iphone, since he saw the preview on G4, he’s been asking for it, I suppose since he’s a good kid I get it for him.
Leather whip! hmm, I think I may have to persuade my wife into something a little different, the problem there is, I’ll show her the whip and she’ll show me the 2×4 she’s going to wallup me with…haha…good to see you feelin’ a little better, take slow and easy and you’ll be back in full swing in no time Nina. Have a great weekend!

I think Paris has done enough. She went in early and behaved herself. So what if she ordered cupcakes and had a stylist come over to her house? Who cares what her “health issue” was? I don’t think she should have skipped jail entirely, and maybe she should watch a few drivers’ ed movies, perhaps hang out with Mandy Moore. :-)

    Hi Mike,

omg! This is so surreal! I’ve been watching this on MSNBC all morning. It’s like the entire country has ground to a halt for Paris. I love it! What absolute genius on her part! To completely hi-jack the national media! hahaha!

Oh right huh? I call Curt overrated and he goes and pitches a 8 2/3 inning no hitter! lol! Egg on my face today, but I still think he’s overrated. I don’t like Curt, and I get the feeling that most people in Red Sox Nation have never really adopted Curt as one of our own. Especially when he went and campaigned for Bush in 2004. A lot of people in RSN were like. “Hey Curt, shut the fuck up and pitch will ya?”

Yeah! A new leather whip! I’ll have to take some pictures of it! It’s one of my more kinky accessories!

    Thanks hon!

    Hi Carol,

I so agree! I still can’t believe that they sent her to jail. Women don’t belong in jail! I think the judge went way over board with her just because she IS Paris Hilton. Oh well. She’s on her way back to court now and the media is watching her every move.

    Thanks sweetie!

The whole country’s gone mad with this, it’s on every channel!

MSNBC: “What is the fascination with all of this?”

Maybe there’s just nothing better on.

Oh yeah, don’t forget about the Shuttle launch tonight! Hope the media doesn’t forget it either.

    Love,
    Gary

  12. 12nina aoki

    Gary,

lol! I know! Now Paris has been ordered back to jail! She went from being 100% wrong to being 100% right because now she’s a martyr!

Oh yes! The shuttle launch tonight! Are you going to watch?

    xoxo,
    nina

  13. 13pile0nades

I just watched it, that liftoff was amazing. Did you see it?

    Love,

    Hi Gary,

Yes! I saw it on CNN. Very impressive!

A new whip? I’m sorry, but that sounds like something for you and Lisa to play with……
    leather and pussy… hmmmmm.

  16. 16nina aoki

    dinsdale_piranha,

Yes, it was a gift. It’s a beautiful whip too, with a chocolate brown and light brown leather weave with two long tassels on the end. It’s got that new leather scent too, and interestingly enough, I had a phone call with Lisa recently and this very subject came up!

I can certainly see this as something she’d be into playing with!

    Sweet Nina,

I just read yuor last few posts. Ouch..my heart to you.
From the deepest to the work of celebrities and Paris Hilton. I’m not much of a follower of celebritiy ecept the odd flick through a magazine in a waiiting room- but have been oddly captivated by Paris and her ability to naviaget and succeed through a pretty dog eat dog world.

  18. 18JW

Ah, nature brought to you by…
First, Battle at Kruger: Lions, Buffalo, Crocodile
    and Spiders on Drugs.

Music pics for the weekend…Vanessa Mae’s “Embrasse Moi” and “Aurora” from the Storm cd.

  19. 19dinsdale_piranha

You and Lisa are nude. You are kissing, lips dancing, nipples rubbing. She has the whip, rubbing it gently against your wet pussy. while your finger gently slides into her pussy. She rewards your good behavior by letting you taste your pussy on the whip. And then she says “Bend over”…..

Just trying to cheer things up here!

I’ll bet reality is better than my fantasy.

  20. 20nina aoki

    Sabine,

Hello sweetie! I’m sorry I haven’t been over to read your tag yet, but I will soon. Thank you so much for the kind words. I’m getting thru it.

Well, I’m a big celebrity junkie! lol! But Paris has managed to turn herself into the perfect victim. Sheer genius really.

    Thanks hon!

  22. 22nina aoki

    dinsdale_piranha,

 Well, reality is very good, but you’ve got quite an imagination there!

Things are fine, but thanks for thinking of me. I saw Lisa last night. We went out for a while, and of course, played…

    That will come soon.

    Thanks!

    Hey Nina,

Love this site! Don’t usually write in though, but thought I would today because of your “Appetite for destruction” article. Being a huge Guns n’ Roses fan (wink, wink) I was immediately attracted to your piece just by the title. But I was more surpised by the wonderful ideas your essay expresses that, surprisingly, echo the sentiments of this following piece, from the website of the leading *socialist* organization in the States! -
    http://www.wsws.org/articles/2007/jun2007/hilt-j12.shtml

Wonder how you feel about that? :-)

  24. 24nina aoki

    SM,

Hi there, thanks for sharing your thoughts with me and welcome to geishaland!

Well, a good title is after all a good title. As for Paris; well, I saw that original article posted on 2007.6.9 by the WSWS, and I think they’re quite correct.

Paris Hilton is an easy target, and for some reason hating Paris seems to be ‘en vouge’ right now. Is it because she’s rich? Beautiful? Spoiled? That she does things that the rest of us only wish we could? Who can say for sure, but the perception of this case is that somehow Paris got special treatment because she was released after only serving 5 days of a 23 day jail sentence. Well, if you look at the facts, and they’re all out there, Paris served 10% of her jail sentence and was released to home confinement with an electronic bracelet. She was actually eligible to be kicked out of jail after serving four days without any kind of monitoring at all! And let’s not forget, she’s on probabtion for 36 months, so Paris still has to keep her nose clean.

Basically it comes down like this I think; the judge in the case wants Paris to suffer. He’s trying to make an example out of her, and only he can answer to why that is. I actually suspect misogyny on his part… only a misogynistic control freak asshole of a man would insist that this woman, of all people, be punished so harshly.

Those who are in positions of power and who take pleasure in the suffering of another, especially a woman, are a malignant tumor on our society. So he was angry that she was 15 minutes late to her hearing… is that her fault when the paparazzi chase this woman around 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year? She said the media made her late, was she wrong? I don’t think so. And in the grand scale of things… what did she really do? She was stopped for DUI with a .08 blood alcohol level (just at the CA legal limit), her DL was suspended for 90 days and she was placed on probabtion for 36 months. Was she stupid to drive herself? Of course she was! But so what? According to Hilton, the cops seek her out and pull her over just to hit on her! Good lord… we (women) deal with this shit all the time! But you know, it wasn’t like she blamed the Jews! And what happened to Mel Gibson again? Exactly my point.

Right or wrong, we made Paris Hilton famous by caring. We have brave men and women dying in the middle east, civilians are dying in the middle east and elsewhere around the world in the most attrocious of ways, children are dying of malnutrition, disease, rape, murder, and our 24/7 American media devoted last Friday to wall to wall Paris Hilton coverage. Does anyone else think this is absurd?

Tho, there’s certainly some irony in the World Socialist Organization coming out in support of her. I think they’re dead on tho.

She should have been released from jail after serving her 10% of her sentence and that’s that. It’s unfortunate that her celebrity status is working against her this time around, but as I said, perception is reality isn’t it?

    Thanks again and welcome!

    xoxo,
    nina
