Turn on the red light

6hred.jpg“Turn that down!”; a phrase I often heard growing up, and one that has often passed my own lips as I implore my child on an almost daily basis to lower the thuds and thumps which emanate from his bedroom and shake the four walls of our house with seemingly enough force to move the tectonic plates, with little to no success. I imagine my own parents felt the same way and reached a similar conclusion that I did when they bought me my very first Sony Walkman for Christmas the year they came out, and when I rushed out to the Apple Store to buy my son his first iPod nano; I don’t have to listen to this anymore. Headphones, self contained environment, problem solved, right? Wrong. Music it seems, wants to be heard, and it wants to be heard loud.

I don’t necessarily have a problem with that. We’re all music lovers in our family, and we’ve all got an assortment of gadgets to play our favorite music, and of course, my husband as deaf as he is from years of self abuse touring and hanging out with musicians is the worst offender of all, with his ‘pumpinest stereo’ as he likes to call it, which actually might shake the tectonic plates if played long enough, and then there’s me with the car stereo and my music mixes played at obscene volumes; where am I going with this? Oh yes… we’re going to see The Police tonight in Boston at Fenway Park – a show which promises to evoke many memories and is likely to have us dancing along the third baseline.

When we found out that The Police were touring in the states this summer, we knew that we absolutely had to get tickets to see them, and we’ve been completely giddy just thinking about it because after all, we grew up with The Police. Music is such an important part of each of our lives. You may not remember everything you did when you were 13 years old, but you’ll always remember the song that was playing when the boy who took you to the junior high school dance gave you your first kiss (Keep on Lovin’ You – REO Speedwagon). I know… I just dated myself horribly! But then once you got to high school and gravitated towards the cool kids, you were exposed to music you’d never heard before. Bands like U2, The Clash, The B-52’s and The Police, and all of that music stayed with you. You listened to it when you went to parties, when you got your drivers license and drove around in mom’s car with your girlfriends, or when you went out on dates, and when you went away to college. The music was part of your life, and it still is. I’ve got every album released by The Police loaded onto my iPod along with everything else I like to listen to, and as our music collection has grown, so has our gadget collection. My son now has his nano and a 30gb video iPod. I have a nano and an 80gb video iPod, and my husband has a 30gb and an 80gb iPod, and they’re all loaded with music, memories, and the pulse of our lives, but there’s nothing quite like going to a concert to hear one of your favorite bands of all time. That’s a memory which will always stay with you.

Speaking of iPods, my son’s laptop recently suffered a meltdown and of course the big panic was losing all of his music. One of the biggest complaints about the iPod was that your music only goes in one direction, and while you can move music from your computer to your iPod, it isn’t so easy to move it back from your iPod. So there has to be a geek worthy solution right? There is. I found the coolest piece of software from the littleapp factory called iPod Rip which allows you to pull your music off your iPod and load it back onto your computer, which in my son’s case (and I imagine a few other music lovers out there) is a life saver. This is a little piece of software which everyone who uses an iPod on any regular basis should have because you never know when your computer might decide to up and die on you.

What else is new in my world?

Shopping of course! I bought myself some La Perla undergarmets which with any luck my hottie UPS man will be bringing sometime next week, and I’ve been chipping away at my summer reading list too. Piper had an interesting post about how much of a bookworm she is (so am I) and she mentioned that some of her friends found it weird that she reads the same books over and over. Not at all! In fact, guilty as charged! I’m currently re-reading Delta of Venus by Anaïs Nin, which is one of my absolute favorite books of all time. I also bought the DVD Delta of Venus which is an adaptation from the book after I saw it on The Sundance Channel last year. If you’ve never read Nin, or specifically Delta of Venus, then do so, and the film is well worth checking out too if you can catch it on Sundance, or just get the DVD and watch the NC-17 version… the sex scenes are scorching!

I had a conversation with a friend the other day and kind of mused about how weird June and July have been. At first it felt like things were just hectic, now I think it’s just been a really long funk. I haven’t really felt centered, and for a while it felt like all I was doing was working and sleeping. My personal to-do list has filled up and hopefully I can break out of this funk and get myself back on track. One of the things I absolutely must do is go thru my links page and I’ve been toying around with the idea of changing the look of geishaland, but I kind of like the way my site looks. I’m attached to the subtle lines and easy flow of things here, but maybe this is yet another symptom of funkiness, or maybe it’s just the heat of summer getting to me. Who knows for sure?

My list of projects is getting out of control tho. I’ve been playing with my lelo nea for two months now and still have to write the review, I have the next part of this story to write, and then a bunch of other unfinished things to work on. Maybe I should quit working and become a professional blogger like my friend Jonathan? I mean, most of the time I work from my home office anyway, so it isn’t like that would change, and I could focus all of my attention on the comings and goings of cyberia and just write away!

Hmmmm….something to think about! But tonight… I’m turning on the red light!

Enjoy your weekend!

Love your sitename already, cant wait till I am loving your posts!

Speaking of weirdness of June and July… we’ve had the most wacky weather… the wettest summers on record and flooding all over the country. I think we’re starting to see the back of it finally.

On a final note, Music should be loud and proud!!!

Julianne,

Thanks! And welcome to geishaland! :kissing:

Hi Kyma!

Yeah! I’d read that the UK has been deluged with flooding this summer. Maybe it might wake up those climate change skeptics! I’m glad things are starting to level off over there.

Well, all I can say is WOW! What an amazing show last night!

They opened with Message in a Bottle, and they played a lot of songs I didn’t expect to hear along with all of the expected hits. They played incredible versions of The Bed’s Too Big Without You and Invisible Sun, plus they did two encores! It was fabulous! My ears are still ringing today!

“…I bought myself some La Perla undergarmets which with any luck my hottie UPS man will be bringing sometime next week…”

Could we interest madame in something French or maybe Brazilian?

Or would madame prefer something naughty or maybe retro ?

JW,

Ooo! Madame has a weakness for pretty lingerie! I love the StockinGirl site!

Well, the best part about La Perla is that they have a boutique in Boston on Boylston Street so I can shop there whenever I want, but what I wanted this time had to be shipped to me. (It’s for a special occasion, not for everyday wear…)

Thanks for the links sweetie!

“maybe it’s just the heat of summer getting to me. Who knows for sure?”………………
Hi My Nina,
I know for a fact that the heat can make even the sweetest people a bit freakin batty, so i can offer you no really good comment on that (lol) just wanted to pop in & say HI!
Love ya,
Neaya

We can NOT for the life of us, convince our 11 yr old that headphones were made solely for the user only!! He seems to think it’s cool, to have the headphones around his head (above his ears) with the music cranked all the way up. GRRRRRR We all have our favorite music, but GDI if I wanted to listen to what he was listening to, it’d be in the stereo, or playing off the iPod dock. Obviously, you struck a nerve.

On another note, I absolutely adore the description of music during your youth - the current hits and then learning about the ‘cooler’ music. You hit the nail on the head with that description.

Hey there Miss Neaya!

Batty is exactly how I feel lately! I’m convinced that this is just a summer funk brought on by excessive heat and humidity. I swear, there’s going to be a hole in the ozone layer over my house from the 24/7 AC I’ve got running!

But, some new projects have come my way, and I think there’s going to be some positive changes happening around here soon, so stay tuned babes and thanks for dropping by!
:kissing:

nina

Hi musns!

lol! I can sympathize with that! Yeah, my son’s new thing is walking around with one ear bud in, and the other just hanging around his neck! But I know what you mean about the iPod dock - it seems like we’ve got enough stereo equipment and iPod accessories in our house to make all of us deaf!

Oh thanks sweetie! Isn’t it funny how we all share those kinds of common memories and shared experiences? I can still remember being in my 9th grade art class listening to U2’s War on my cassette walkman!

Thanks hon!

Thanks for the shout out, sweetie. And thanks for the iPod tip. I haven’t had any problems yet but you just know it’ll happen eventually.

I love StockinGirl and the retro lingerie look. My favorites are the ’30’s and ’40’s styles. That era combines the elegant and erotic in a seamless way, whether it’s the actresses, actors or the lingerie.

Piper,

Oh you’re very welcome sweetheart! There’s another iPod management tool that you might want to check out called iPod Access. It’s shareware but it’s got some great features.

You and I have such similar tastes! I love that ’30’s and ’40’s look! There’s just something so elegantly erotic and sublimely enticing about that era. Some may think it retro, but I think it’s just timeless.

Thanks hon!

nina

Heyyyy. I’m certainly not knockin’ “retro”. There is a timeless allure to it, no doubt. I fondly remember seamed stockings

Btw, Shirley of Hollywood also has some nice pieces here and here.

And here’s a good article by Steff (of Smut & Steff), who pretty much nailed it . . . . Sexy: Quantifiable? Bogart to the Rescue. Stars of that era had a presence about them that’s mostly missing today. Lauren Bacall nailed it a year back when she said today’s stars couldn’t hold a candle to the Bogies or the Wm Powells of that era. But, I think Scarlett Johansson might have figured it out…very sultry.

One of my favorite artists does a marvelous job capturing that essence . . . . Jack Vettriano.

And my music recommendation for the day . . . .
Chill In Natura by Chilled C’Quence from the cd MAGIC SENSE.

Enjoy!

And on another note . . . .
free internet tv.

This is one of my favorites - seamed nylon stockings, not stretchy, made the way they used to be.

JW,

Hmmm, I always find it so interesting how guy’s tastes are so different from ours, but those are some nice things! And thanks for the links to your articles! I always love to peruse thru Dirty Girl Things!

My music recommendation is La Perla: Noir. It seems that a lot of upscale fashion houses are having music compilations put together, like the Saks Fifth Avenue mix by Stephane Pompougnac. I just ordered the La Perla CD from Amazon!

Thanks sweetie! :kissing:

Hi Carol!

How have you been sweetie! Oh those look delicious! Thanks for the link hon! :kissing:

xoxo,
nina

Hi Nina!
The customer service at Vicki’s is very nice, too. Oh, my helpful hint — when spending that much on stockings, don’t wear shoes with buckles. Snagging…
I find different guys have different preferences. That can be fun, trying a different shop or source all together for a new look. Even better when you understand what someone likes and find things they did not know existed. :-D

Hi Carol!

Oh I so agree! I only wear the silk stockings I bought in Paris last year with certain shoes and only after I’ve had a pedicure! They are priceless to me!

Mmmm, yes, that’s quite true too; different guys most definitely have different preferences. My husband hates anything that covers my abdomen, and he’s got a thing for garters too, black of course!

I love lingerie because I feel so beautiful when wearing it, and I know most of us wear those things to please our lovers, but wearing just for you can be an amazing thing too.

Thanks sweetie!

Sacré bleu!!!!

Despite our tastes in lingerie, ultimately I think we can agree on the goal. :D

Brevity is the soul of lingerie. ~Dorothy Parker

Ps: Some very good picks for music sweets (as always).

JW,

lol! “Sacré bleu” huh? I see.

Well, yes, we can agree on the goal!

My music came yesterday yay! Noir is amazing! It’s boudoir chic all the way!

“Sacré bleu”

Heh heh heh. It was the weekend afterall and I had to reach pretty deep for that one. No beret though. :D

Be nice since President Sarkozy is vacationing here in the US, ok. :D

Next time, I’ll have to poke fun at the Albanians.

JW,

Is Sarkozy here?? I’m so behind! I haven’t read anything about that one. I wonder if he’s here to pick up some pointers on how to fuck up a nation?

You can poke fun at whomever you want sweetie!

Joke of the day……..

Nick the Dragon Slayer
Nick the Dragon Slayer had a long-standing obsession to nuzzle the beautiful Queen’s voluptuous breasts, but he knew the penalty for this would be death.

One day he revealed his secret desire to his colleague, Horatio, the Physician, who was the King’s chief doctor. Horatio the Physician exclaimed that he could arrange for Nick the Dragon Slayer to satisfy his desire, but it would cost him 1,000 gold coins to arrange it.

Without pause, Nick the Dragon Slayer readily agreed to the scheme. The next day, Horatio the Physician made a batch of itching powder and poured a little bit into the Queen’s brassiere while she bathed.

Soon after she dressed, the itching commenced and grew intense. Upon being summoned to the Royal Chambers to address this incident, Horatio the Physician informed the King and Queen that only a special saliva, if applied for four hours, would cure this type of itch, and that tests had shown that only the saliva of Nick the Dragon Slayer would work as the antidote to cure the itch.

The King quickly summoned Nick the Dragon Slayer. Horatio the Physician then slipped Nick the Dragon Slayer the antidote for the itching powder, which he quickly put into his mouth, and for the next four hours, Nick worked passionately on the Queen’s voluptuous and magnificent breasts.

The Queen’s itching was eventually relieved, and Nick the Dragon Slayer left satisfied and touted as a hero. Upon returning to his chamber, Nick the Dragon Slayer found Horatio the Physician demanding his payment of 1,000 gold coins. With his obsession now satisfied, Nick the Dragon Slayer couldn’t have cared less and, knowing that Horatio the Physician could never report this matter to the King, shooed him away with no payment made.

The next day, Horatio the Physician slipped a massive dose of the same itching powder into the King’s shorts. The King immediately summoned Nick the Dragon Slayer…

MORAL OF THE STORY: Pay Your Bills

Sorry, but it’s the best I could do today. :D

OK, how about this, it’s a veritable cornucopia & showcase of lingerie of every flavor by every maker for every taste (ok, say that 3 times, hehehe).
