A Six Word Memoir

Tagged by Ms. Olivia Delamere; the inscrutably beautiful English Courtesan Livvy wrote her own Six Word Memoir here, and then she tagged me and asked me to play too.

There are of course rules to this internet meme, tho not like the rules of Haiku as discussed with larokkaku here, nor like The Hemingway Challenge thrown down before me by my ‘International Man of Mystery’ Lazy Ichi here – this tag requires a bit more thought I think.

The rules of the six word memoir tag are as follows:

  • Write your own six word memoir
  • Post it on your blog and include a visual illustration if you’d like
  • Link to the person that tagged you in your post
  • Tag five more blogs with links
  • And don’t forget to leave a comment on the tagged blogs with an invitation to play

Well this certainly seems like something I’d enjoy – even tho following the rules was never my strong point – tho I could use part of a comment I’d left here in geishaland recently to satisfy the visual illustration part of this meme - or maybe this will work too.

I’ve always felt that the secret to my happiness in life was to never let go of the little girl inside myself – that it’s often desirable to look at whatever is going on in my life as if I were looking thru the eyes of a child, and that one simple idea has brought me untold personal riches and joy over and over again. So, as I expressed to larokkaku here about how I saw myself and my work:

I think the best analogy I have for my writing is that it’s very much like the little girl sitting with her coloring book and crayons who simply refuses to color within the lines on the page because she’s having too much fun drawing pictures everywhere else!

This metaphor and imagery also illustrates who I am. So as I think about writing a Six Word Memoir… my answer is easy-peasey!

A little girl and her crayons.

And now I have to find six other girls and boys to play with me! I tag Lola, saratoga, Aimee (and Angie - two for the price of one!), Piper, and Anastasia! Remember to bring your crayons!

On Edit: In discussing this six word memoir with friends, primarily saratoga - we both came away with the impression that this was perhaps one of the more interesting internet memes either of us had ever participated in because it demanded a fair degree of introspection. The results have been fascinating too. Seeing what other people have come up with has been truly spectacular. You can read saratoga’s six word memoir here, Anastasia’s here, Piper’s here - and then Lenora’s (tagged by saratoga) here.

Just added - Lola’s can be found here!

And FINALLY! :P

Aimee’s can be found here!

I know you will always color outside the lines. I think I do also……. It is a very nice day to be alive and well. Richard

Hi Richard,

Thank you sweetheart. You know, when you can retain that sense of wonder about the world, every day is a very nice day to be alive. That’s what it truly means to look thru the eyes of a child - every day is new and exciting, and the beautiful things you encounter take on a brand new significance.

You know… my Father named me ‘nina’ which in Italian literally translates as ‘little girl’ - (Father was Italian) - perhaps he knew something about his newborn daughter before she did. I did post this quite some time ago… what a cutie I was huh?

Tho - I did drive my mother insane! haha!

That picture is just precious……

may I jump in the pool?

a personal favorite…

“I am a poor wayfaring stranger.”

….but that’s stealing.

or how about…

“radio waves breaking on cybernet seas.”

…a little impersonal.

so how’s this…

“hopelessly lost without pockets or hats.”

…that’s all, folks!

Ooooh, ooooh, Ninaaaaaaaaaaaaah! I am squealing with delight that not only are you my first [blushes slightly...] but you’re utterly brilliant with it!

Might I add that the girl in the Six Word Memoir is a truly beautiful little girl and so are her crayons? That makes more than 6 words but then I’ve never been good at rules…sighs…
