over morning tea: there’s no rest for a content slut

Mulling my thoughts over this morning with a cup of Lapsang Souchong Full Leaf; after taking a much required day of rest away from the major comings and goings of geishaland… I find myself with more ideas than I currently have time to explore right now – a late morning appointment with my physician to have my girlparts inspected takes precedence – but later this afternoon is open with possibilities!  ;)

Tho an interesting email which landed in my inbox late yesterday has me thinking some things over on this rainy spring day as I sit here at my desk sipping my tea.  :?:

It would seem as tho I’ve been noticed again.  I’ve been contacted by a company interested in working with me – in terms of me writing product reviews, placing their advertising here – basically the nuts and bolts of forming a relationship with me, and the thing is, this is a major league organization.  Very well known company, great brand recognition, great marketing, and exactly the perfect fit for what I do.  So what’s the problem?

A couple of months ago I purged virtually all of that from geishaland with the exception of my toy reviews and articles which centered around sexuality.  I felt, at the time, that I needed to get back to writing for myself, to strip away any and all distractions and just focus on my writing – but now that I’ve been approached with this offer, I’m trying to decide what to do and what’s in my and geishaland’s best long term interests.

This isn’t the first time I’ve been noticed or approached – in two and a half years almost everyone has come knocking on my door, and I’ve always been reticent to just jump into bed with a company just because they make me an offer.  I was self conscious enough about what was happening to this place without adding more of that into the equation.  For me it was always about the company and whether or not that company was a good fit for what I do.  Tho I have to say – this latest one is.

There are of course pros and cons with this deal like anything else – but I’m going to give it some thought, as well as giving some thought to everything else which impacts the direction of this space – and if I can keep my writing and everything else in perspective, I might just do it.  I can’t say that I’m 100% against advertising.  All of the most successful blogs on the net have some form of advertising content within their pages – tho some much more than others — but I also don’t want my space to turn into a billboard either.  That just simply will not make me happy in the end – that much I know.  So – some things to think about today.

Enjoy your Thursday and I’ll be enjoying some quality time with my gynecologist.

Ah, yes, sluts don’t like having their girly bits broken or defective, so the periodic inspection is required. You have to keep those in good working order, lest you be required to forego your slut status.

I know for me personally, I avoid advertising. Even on my main site, which is labor and cost intensive. Of course, it is geared towards teens, and trying to sell sex toys to teens would attract unwanted attention. I do wish that were legal.

If you need the money, then I’d seriously consider it. If it didn’t generate enough money to make a dent in the pocketbook, then as far as I am concerned it is just one more person/group to be beholden to and they all have rules about how/where their ads can appear, etc. More trouble than it is worth, IMO.

Unless, of course, it is something you are directly involved in. A good example would be the Lazy Geisha line of butt plugs, strap-ons, and personal lubricants. If that were the case, then of course, advertise away! ;-)

Hi Caitiebelle!

Well — my girlparts got a seal of approval!

One cannot claim sluttery status if her girlparts aren’t up to the task!

You know — it’s never been about the money. I mean, whatever I make is enough to pay my yearly hosting fees and it gives me more money to spend on makeup and stuff for me. It isn’t as if I need the income or depend on it to live my life. The extra is nice, but I’m going to spend what I’m going to spend anyway, so it isn’t like it makes a huge dent.

It might be more trouble than it’s worth. I think the idea of being approached and asked is kind of nice tho — considering the company.

I would love to do my own line! That’s something that’s been in the back of my mind for a while now. I need to look into making that happen.

Still thinking tho.

Mwah!

Hi Nina,
As we’ve discussed, there is a difference between selling out and making a buck. You seem very honest about it all, and you put a lot of time and energy into this for seemingly not much money. If you can keep control of your content and stay true to yourself, why not? As long as I’m not reading some story with constant add placement (ala The Truman Story), I’ll stay true. AND, CONGRATULATIONS!! It is wonderful to be recognized for something you do well! I’ve learned tons from you about everything from fiber cable lines to fine products. Even the Barack/Hillary issue-you are great fun and informative! So keep doing it and buy yourself a nice present with your profits!! (maybe a luxury box/suite at Fenway?) ;) Also, I’m all for you starting your own product line. Let me know if you are looking for investors! Wendy

Hi Wendy,

Oh sure — that’s a great point. And thanks! Yes, it was nice to be approached based on the quality of my work. That means a lot to me. I’m still mulling it over and I’m trying to decide what’s best. I don’t want to rush into a new relationship.

And thank you also for the kind words about my work. That really means a lot to me too. ;)

As for the lazy geisha product line… lol! Stay tuned!!!

Thanks!
