Thoughts by candlelight: the wind and the water

Something that doesn’t include sex and religion?  Sure, why not.  I need a break anyway; sent to me by larokkaku last week – 16 year old Zac Sunderland here hopes to fulfill his dream of circumnavigating the globe with just his ship, the water and the wind, and his wits and skills.

Zac will depart Marina Del Ray, CA on June 14th – and it appears as tho he’ll be blogging his journey.  In a nice way I think it would be kind of cool to follow this brave young man as he makes which will surely be a life changing voyage.

Imagine what this young man will experience as he navigates the globe across the world’s oceans – that time when he’s all alone with his thoughts and the wonderful meditative moments which come from such solitude, and also the thrills and rushes of adrenaline which comes from sailing itself – the dangers, the struggles, the obstacles.  These are feelings very few of us ever get to experience in an entire lifetime.

I wish him well and I’ll be following his journey too!

What else? What else?

Oh – you know I couldn’t leave it alone, right?  Yeah… I know.

I need to thank everyone for commenting and for all of the inbound links to my interview with Jill McDevitt.  At this point I’m going to back away from this issue for a little while and just let the process take whatever course its going to take.  If I can help, I will.  If I can’t, I’m not going to worry about it.

But!  I have an interview scheduled tomorrow with a woman who is truly remarkable, sexy, smart and who might just surprise you and change the way you think about the world’s oldest profession.  I’ve been looking forward to this all week too!

And some breaking news… Barack Obama is reportedly meeting Hillary Clinton at her Washington D.C. home tonight.  This is being described by some insiders as a “booty call”… still developing…

Sailing takes me away to where I want to gooOOooOOooOooOO

OK, Christopher Cross I ain’t.

But that sounds ridiculously cool.

16?! Wow, when I was sixteen, the most difficult thing I ever wanted to do was play Beethoven’s 3rd movement of ‘Moonlight Sonata’ on the piano(which I still can’t do).

He’s going by himself? *faints* I hope he will succeed.

the geisha’s garden -
where synchronicity abounds:

the current New Yorker features
six or seven short essays on the theme of “faith & doubt.”
george saunders’s (”hypocrites”) is the most sly & entertaining - as usual,
and tobias wolff (”winter light”) posits the interesting notion
that faith might merely be a question of aesthetics.

also, thought you might enjoy this:

than it is for other people.” (thomas mann)

“ah, but I may as well try & catch the wind…”

Scene from inside my house…

Jeff: Did you watch Hillary’s concession speech?

Me: Yeah, some of it. I was working on something.

Jeff: I think my man Obama hit it correctly.

Me: Eww! That’s disgusting!! (laughing)

Jeff: Yeah… but I’m not wrong…

Isn’t marriage wonderful?

I commend Zac on his adventurous spirit.

Of course as First Mate, I’d be navigating to something along the lines of this.

Now to find my Rosetta Stone to brush up on Japanese.

Let’s see…
Watashi no namae wa Lazy Ichi.

Arewa nihongo de nanto iimasu ka?

Lazy Ichi,

Mmmm, I agree with that.

ha! Now that looks interesting! Tho, I’ve been known to spend weekends indulging only on wine, chocolate and cheese… a little tequila maybe too? I have to be in the right mood for Sake tho.

(I think your Japanese needs some work tho!)
