over morning tea: I (heart) J.D. Drew
Getting an early start this morning with a cup of Assam Breakfast Black Tea; what a difference a year makes! All of my baseball friends, the pugnacious bunch of Red Sox fans that they all are – people who dealt with year upon year of heartbreak until the magical 2004 post-season, who now pontificate on high about players, stats, and every teeny detail of the game as they bask in the glory of being fans of baseball’s most beloved franchise – who all dissed J.D. Drew last season as he struggled to make the adjustment to the American League… can now lick me.
J.D. Drew is a superhero!
A write up on the All-Star Game here which tells the story of how J.D. Drew won the hearts of New York Yankees fans (if only for a few innings) last night with his game tying two run homer in the seventh which set up the AL team to finally take the game in a walk off 4-3 victory in the 15th – and how Drew clinched the All Star Game MVP award. It couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy.
J.D. Drew may not occupy the same place in my mind as Josh Beckett does, but last year when all my friends were complaining about how much the Red Sox were paying Drew to not hit very well as I kept telling them to be patient and wait; “He’ll come around, just you wait and see…” — he came thru when it counted in the post season against the Cleveland Indians last season with his Grand Slam in game six of last year’s ALCS – but it’s so cool to see J.D. getting the recognition he deserves, and it reinforces the fact that I know more about baseball than any three of my friends – including my husband!
J.D. Drew is now loved in Boston!
Another piece of news: The Massachusetts State Senate has voted to repeal a 1913 segregationist era law which has been used to keep out of state homosexual couples from getting married here. The bill to repeal the law goes to the House next and is expected to pass and then be signed by Governor Deval Patrick. You can read about it here.
These are the times when I’m really proud of what government can accomplish. Once this law is repealed we’ll be one step closer towards true equality for lesbian and gay couples who want to get married in Massachusetts.
Other things
I’m going to attempt the Wordpress upgrade which I mentioned here – I did all of my backups last night so I think I’m all set! This could either be a very good thing, or a disaster!
Most of the problems people seem to be having with this upgrade are with broken permalinks, which may have something to do with how their .htaccess file is formatted with the Apache rewrite engine. Other issues seem to be with being able to login to the admin section, which seems to be related to clearing browser cookies. Why, I have no idea, but that’s apparently what’s going on. So — we shall see how I do.
Also on the agenda is modifying some CSS around here. I’m thinking some new colors for a few things here and there might brighten up geishaland a bit!
I’m also going to try and get my LELO Luna Balls review done sometime today too.
I heard a story last night about a guy who kept a blog; nothing salacious or anything like that — but his wife didn’t know about it. Well… now she does! And she’s apparently not too happy about it either! As a wife, I can understand this, and I may have more to say about this subject at a later time, but unfortunately he was forced to delete his blog to placate his wife (there were other reasons too), and while I can understand all of this — it’s sad that this guy now lost his outlet. I’m just grateful that I don’t have to hide any of what I do from Jeff or Lisa. That in itself is the greatest gift I could receive — being able to be who I am and not having to worry about it.
I know it’s summer and everyone is busy, and things are typically quiet in July, but I’m getting a little lonely around here…
Enjoy your Wednesday!

Edit: Wordpress update complete! No Problems! Yay! :P

Isn’t it more ceremonial for people who do not live in Mass to get married there? I believe and correct me if I am wrong but other states do not have to recognize the marriage even if it was done legally in another state. Is the main opposition to same sex marriage the god squad or is it due to financial implications it would cause to insurance companies and other big businesses?
